Who physical therapy at home helps.

Physical therapy is where Tender Touch started. Our administrator is a physical therapist who still treats patients at home. We help people with:

“In just two weeks, I was walking again without a cane or walker.”

What happens at a visit.

Therapy happens where you live, so you practice on the stairs and in the rooms you use every day.

A full assessment

How you move, your pain, your home and your goals, so the plan fits your life.

Exercises that build strength

A program for strength, range of motion and balance, with clear corrections as you go.

Walking and stairs practice

On your own floors and stairs, with the walker, cane or rail you actually use.

Home safety and equipment

Simple changes that prevent falls, and advice on equipment that helps.

Is it covered by Medicare?

With Original Medicare, covered home health visits cost you nothing. You usually qualify when all four of these are true.

How to start physical therapy at home.

First, we get the referral

From your doctor, the hospital, a rehab facility or you. We need the order and recent visit notes, and we can request them for you.

Next, we confirm the details

We verify insurance, call you to explain what’s covered, and agree a time that works for the family.

Then, your clinician arrives

Usually within 24 to 48 hours. The first visit sets goals with you and builds the plan your doctor signs.

Physical therapy questions.

Often within a day or two of coming home. Once we have the order from your surgeon or doctor, care usually starts within 24 to 48 hours.
For Medicare home health, yes. Homebound means leaving home takes a major effort, for example you need a walker, a wheelchair or another person’s help. You can still go to medical appointments, religious services and the occasional short outing.
Your therapist and your doctor set the number of visits in your plan of care, based on your goals. We update your doctor as you progress and change the plan when you need more or less help.
Sometimes. Your therapist may suggest a walker, cane, raised toilet seat or shower chair. Medicare Part B usually covers 80% of approved medical equipment, such as a walker, and you pay 20%. Some bathroom items are not covered. We’ll explain your options before you buy anything.
That is the goal. When you no longer need home health, your therapist will tell you and your doctor. If you still need therapy, we help you move on to outpatient physical therapy.
