Who a home health aide helps.

Our aides support patients who are already receiving skilled nursing or therapy from Tender Touch and need help with:

What happens at a visit.

A registered nurse or therapist plans and supervises aide visits, so personal care fits the rest of your treatment.

Bathing and personal care

A safe bath, shower or sponge bath, with privacy and respect.

Dressing and grooming

Help getting dressed and ready for the day.

Moving safely

Help with transfers and short walks, the way your therapist taught you.

Watching for changes

Aides tell your nurse about new skin problems, pain or changes in how you’re doing.
Medicare covers home health aide visits only when you also receive skilled nursing or therapy. It does not cover meal preparation, housekeeping or 24-hour care on their own.

Is it covered by Medicare?

With Original Medicare, covered home health visits cost you nothing. You usually qualify when all four of these are true.

How to start home health aide care at home.

First, we get the referral

From your doctor, the hospital, a rehab facility or you. We need the order and recent visit notes, and we can request them for you.

Next, we confirm the details

We verify insurance, call you to explain what’s covered, and agree a time that works for the family.

Then, your clinician arrives

Usually within 24 to 48 hours. The first visit sets goals with you and builds the plan your doctor signs.

Home health aide questions.

Yes, on a part-time basis, when you also receive skilled nursing, physical therapy, speech therapy or occupational therapy as part of home health care. Medicare does not cover an aide when personal care is the only help you need.
Your plan of care sets the schedule. Aide visits are part time, often a few times a week. Medicare does not cover 24-hour care at home.
A registered nurse or therapist from our team plans the aide’s work and checks on it regularly.
Medicare does not cover meal preparation or housekeeping on their own. Our aides focus on bathing and personal care. If you need more help at home, our medical social worker can connect you with other services.
